To mark the 75th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War, the Legion were keen to replace the old benches at the War Memorial. Chairman Steve Kingsford set about working on two designs reflecting different theatres of war in the conflict.

The benches were commissioned from David Oglivie Engineering in Kilmarnock and very few changes had to be made to turn the designs into a workable project. The benches were delivered in May 2019 and Wigwam Storage very kindly stored them until our member Dave Peachey had re-tiled the War Memorial.

The benches were unveiled in a service at the War Memorial on 26th October 2019 in the presence of Deputy Lieutenant Sir Tony Baldry. At the same time a new Union flag was run up the flagpole and our 2019 Poppy Appeal launched.
